The Lucid Episode Two (Audible Audio Edition) Nick Thacker Kevin Tumlinson David Melcher Turtleshell Press Books Reviews
This series about AI and humans has to be the best one out there. Right from the very first, Episode two picks up where one left off. It is so actiion packed that you can't put It down because you don't want to miss any part of it. Are you going end up a Lucid or a Suppresed? It makes you wonder and think, could this happen to us? Nick Thacker and Kevin Tumlinson have done a suburb job of writing this series. I can't wait to see what happens to Adam and David in the next episode. This series is a definite winner.
I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Like some others, I was given an advance copy of this in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this about as much as episode 1, and agree with many other comments that it's a bit more sketched out like a TV or movie script than a traditional novel.
The limitations of such a narrative device started to reveal itself a little bit in this episode, as it was very difficult to empathize with any of the characters.
The story itself is very well done, and the action is fantastic but I'm a little bit concerned about the future of the series based on the lack of emotion.
First things first, I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. I like episode 2 better than episode 1. Of course you have to read episode 1 to understand what is going on and Episode 1 has merit of its own.
Episode 2 moves quickly. There is lots of action and you see the process of character development. Some sad things happen, but they are not drawn out to the point of tragedy. I really appreciate this. We see the major players revealing who they are and their part in the plot.
This is the part of the story where you really find out who they are and what is going on. I can't wait for the next one!
Adam, still a "Lucid", and still wanting the world to return to normal, is taken to a facility in which he is prodded, poked and tested in an attempt to discover why he remains that way. He can only make feeble attempts to escape even after he discovers that his family is in another part of the facility.
David still wants to mold the world to his desires by taking advantage of everything human and technological that is (or will be) available to him. He is becoming fascinated by this "lab rat", and studies everything that's been discovered about Adam and his family.
Both men will get unpleasant surprises.
Adam and his family are rescued by some Lucids, and though neither Adam nor the other Lucids expected that leaving the facility would be easy, neither did they expect the extent of the effort to make them return to it.
That effort includes David, and it also includes a fatal event that further threatens to end Adam's resolve.
But Adam's determination reasserts itself, while David has to recover himself.
And while these two men battle, one with bravery and the other with supreme confidence, the world is becoming caught between them.
The Lucid Episode Two by Nick Tacker and Kevin Tumlinson is the next installment in the episodic science fiction series that follows Adam Bolland, a manager at a water treatment facility, as he fights to save his family and stop whoever is responsible for contaminating the nation’s water supply.
Episode Two seemed a lot faster paced than the first book in the series. Contributing to the perceived increase was the shifting of scenes between the past and present, and there was also a significantly greater amount of action. However, it was also half the length of Episode One.
I can’t say too much without giving anything away, but the several flashback scenes helped to give flesh to the protagonist Adam, and they served to build reader compassion for him when bad things started happening, or should I say continued to happen, since bad things had been happening since the start of Episode One.
While Adam gets some good treatment, antagonist David does little more than help advance the plot. It is a short book, so that’s understandable, but as I said with my review of the first one, I think he is a really interesting bad guy. I hope he gets a little more of the spotlight in Episode Three.
That’s about all I can say without ruining the book for you. I give The Lucid Episode Two a rating of four stars. It’s fast and short, but it does a good job advancing the story-line and keeping you interested. As with the first one, Episode Two kind of ends with a cliff hanger and leaves you wanting to read the next installment.
A quick read and an interesting idea. But the premise is just a bit too far-fetched to really sink my teeth into. I was handicapped by inadequate suspension of disbelief to truly enjoy it.
This book was very good reading and I would recommend it for all apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic fans. It presents a different causational scenario. I only gave it 4 stars because I thought it was too short. I'm hoping that future sequels will be somewhat longer.
This is a great short story and definitely left me wanting more!! The characters and what they go through keep you on the edge of your seat. Non-stop action had me turning pages like mad until I realized I had reached the end. Aargh! I'm hoping to see the next episode of Lucid soon!!
